He could have gone to the Glacier Bay National Park website, and found out that Alaska’s largest glacier retreated 45 miles from 1750 to 1880.

But Glacier Bay hardly retreated at all over the last 50 years.

He could have gone to the NASA web site, and found out that the Jakobshavn Glacier (which is now advancing) retreated very rapidly from 1851 to 1964, and then hardly at all through the end of the 20th century. Over the last three years it has been advancing.

If a glacier is calving into the ocean, isn’t that a sign that the ice mass is accumulating faster than it is melting?
Yes. . It is a sign of a growing glacier. That doesn’t stop climate catatrophists from opportunizing it and falsely claiming it as a sign of warming-caused melting. Those manipulative scum see their audience much in the same way P.T. Barnum did.
I hope that the world will be a little warmer now that the Little Ice Age is over.
My family cruised Glacier bay in 1995, and again, in 2018, coincidentally on the same day of the ceremony of the Tinglit returning to inner-bay ‘Ancestral Homelands’. The canoes were off our port side, paralleling our path.
At the time, I picked up a copy of the Park Service brouchure containing the glacier positions over the years… with the same representations shown by Tony. That the glacier adanced into the ocean, cutting the opening to the ‘bay’, was a revelation to me.
Also instructive was the glacier position at the time of John Muir. Consider this: the forward motion of the Glacier at Vancouver’s time opened the ‘bay’ to admixing of ocean tidewater with the meltwater in the bay. Previously, the connection of the ‘Bay’ to the ocean was by way of meltwater rivers. The advance of the glacier to the ocean during the Little Ice Age re- carved the ocean channel that had previously been filled by alleuvial soil or moraines from an earlier glacial sctivity, opening up to the influence of tides, as well.
From my perspective, the evident differences from 1995 and 2018 were in two areas: decline in the count of ‘hanging’ glaciers ( visible at the top of the gorge, but not reaching tidewater) and the decline of the lower end of the Grand Pacific as it approaches the tidewater. What was, in 1995, a 3-mile-wide, of a 200-foot-thick wall of calving ice, was, in 2018, amuch less impressive, dark moraine… mounds of ice and dirt.
On the left of that, though, the Margerie Glacier still reaches the tidewater with imprssive thickness, and calves a few times an hour.
To all that have not been there, I recommend the trip, easily begun from Seattle, Vancouver, Anchorage or Seward, with many interesting stops along the way. In 1995, we floated the Bald Eagle Preserve…astounding in it beauty and ancient majesty.
Here is the latest piece of BBC propaganda. Watched this so called journalist and a professor from the expedition this morning on Breakfast Time. As usual we got the whole spiel about catastrophic sea level rise and how CO2 is the culprit. Again, one way traffic with no scientist to question the narrative.

Captain George Vancouver was sailing and mapping the Pacific Coast when he came to Glacier Bay in Alaska, but there was no bay in 1794, as the massive glacier extended to the coast. John Muir, founder of the Sierra Club, was exploring the area in 1879, and found the glacier had retreated 48 miles since Vancouver’s visit. No coal power plants had been built anywhere in the world by 1879.
“The remarkably accurate chart the survey produced shows a mere indentation in the shoreline, “terminated by solid compact mountains of ice,” where Glacier Bay is today. The great glacier that filled the Bay was by then in rapid retreat, and was the source of the floating icepack that so hindered Whidbey. Any visitor who came by at the glacial maximum, a few decades earlier, would have found the glacier’s tongue extending out into Icy Strait almost to Lemesurier Island.”
